Air on the G String is the name given to a violin piece adapted, in 1871, from Bach's music by a composer called August Wilhelmj (1845-1908). Since then the piece has been arranged for numerous other instruments and has been variously interpreted. One such noteworthy jazz interpretation being that by the Jacques Loussier Trio. The original piece is the 2nd movement of the 3rd Suite; there being 4 suites altogether. It is nowadays rather difficult to disentangle these two pieces.
